Fully Booked 2021

Dear Friends of Tuleburg Press,

We had hoped that the Covid pandemic would be trending downward, enabling us to get together for the 6th Annual Fully Booked. We even selected an outdoor venue, entertainment, and a menu! And then we canceled.

Unfortunately, we will not be holding and in-person event this year! Our county numbers don’t make us safe enough. For 2021, we will create a digital event with aspects you’ve some to enjoy and expect. First, there will be a sumptuous catalog with a silent auction of donated art, jewelry, and unique book items.

Second, we are asking past major donors to continue to be generous during these difficult times. The Port of Stockton recently has repeated its annual contribution of $5,000, starting us on our path to a campaign goal of $25,000. These donors – foundations, firms, and institutions – form the bedrock of our administrative support for the year.

We have kept programming going during the shelter in place and even increased classes and meet-ups when restrictions were lifted. And though we could not deliver the hands-on activities we promised before Covid, we were able to meet all our contractual obligations and provide some very creative digital programs with excellent instructors.

And even though we received Covid relief monies and our Payroll Protect Program grant of $8000 was forgiven, we still need your support for The Write Place. The center is the only book arts refuge in the valley providing training in publishing, bookbinding, paper making and letterpress printing.

And we are asking you for your support with a donation of $150 or more to meet budget needs for 2021-2022. Please donate online, knowing your donation is safe and secure and completely tax-deductible. You are also able to make an annual pledge, or donate a vehicle, or sponsor a school library! There are many ways to move Tuleburg and its many programs forward.

We thank you for your past contribution and hope you will remain as dedicated to the book arts as we are.

All good things,

Paula Sheil

Founder / President

About Tuleburg Press

Tuleburg Press, a Stockton nonprofit 501(c)(3) publishing company, was formed in 2013 to locate, mentor and publish local authors who write about regional issues or set their stories within our environs.

We began with a novel about the exploitation of black athletes by a fictional CSU and six books later, launched a full-color book of haiku with photography by Lodi resident Barron Sudderth. Our publications are varied as are our regional interests. We’ve published the history of the Philomathean Club, A Lady’s Place, by Mary Jo Gohlke and The Great Chinese New Year’s Race and Other Children’s Plays by Heather Rule.

In March, 2017, Tuleburg Press signed a lease with Cort Companies to open The Write Place on the ground floor of Cort Tower. Since then more than 600 people have taken classes here or come to our speaker series or attended writing workshops which more than 90% are low income and 50% of those are very low income. We hosted Derek Moore, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, who was part of the team that covered the 2018 Sonoma fires, and Dan Gioia, California’s Poet Laureate.

At the Write place, we provide classes in creative writing, calligraphy (including cursive), paper making, book binding and letterpress printing are offered at our center, the only place these kinds of book arts experience are offered in the San Joaquin Valley!

The Write Place reaches out to many diverse communities. We hosted youth and adults from the Kelley’s Angels Foundation; the Central United Methodist Church; The ARC, for People with Developmental Disabilities, the Children’s Home of Stockton and STAND. We held field trips for Spanos and Kohl Elementary Schools. We also provide an office and a home, rent-free to With Our Words, Stockton’s youth poetry collective, founded by Stockton’s Poet Laureate Tama Brisbane.
