We Are Fundraising to Impact Our Community Through the Book Arts and Writing
Since our last Giving Tuesday, Tuleburg Press has:
Plans to launch WordStock, an annual literary festival celebrating diverse writers and addressing literacy challenges in San Joaquin County. WordStock aims to elevate voices, foster mentorship, and combat pandemic-related educational setbacks.
Received a grant from the Stockton Arts Commission to launch the ChapLip Library, which will publish works by four local poets.
Welcomed California Poet Laureate Lee Herrick and Stockton Poet Laureate Jazmarie LaTour for readings at our center, celebrating esteemed voices in poetry to a packed house.
Hosted three series of bookbinding classes, fostering hands-on literary arts skills in the community.
Facilitated three cohorts of Memoir Writing and Poetry classes, nurturing local writing talent across genres.
Provided platforms for three local self-published authors to share their work with the community.
Hosted an end-of-month celebration and reception with Cassi Nesmith for National Poetry Writing Month (#NaPoWriMo), honoring local poets and their craft.
Opened our center for Book Arts Crash Course field trips, engaging over 100 students from Vinewood Elementary, Kohl Open Elementary School, Unbound School, local homeschool groups, and other local organizations.
Participated at Earth Day at Boggs Tract Edible Schoolyard and Stockton Earth Day at Victory Park, Kommunity Hub’s Ube and Matcha Festival, all 3 days of Stockton Flavor Fest, San Joaquin Housing Authority Resident Resource Fairs, and San Joaquin County Historical Museum Passport to Adventure activity days
Held monthly storytelling in English and Spanish and continued two Dungeons and Dragons games, an interactive role-playing experience encouraging world building and character development skills
Met twice a month as Transformative Writers and with Zine Club
Funded two local writers to attend the Yeats International Summer School in Sligo, Ireland from July 11th-19th
Strengthened our organizational capacity by hiring Melissa Destarac as our new Executive Director!
